I do better at getting things done with an accountability process. Unfortunately that means you're going to be spammed with accountability media until I'm done or get bored, so... buckle up.

I have finished the first square, which is super nice. I really like it.

First square took about one center-pull cake of yarn. (For those not paying attention, these yarn cakes are handspun yarn and wound by me so they're not standard.) It's 68 rows (not counting cast on or bind off), so 34 pairs of blocks (a knit block and a purl block) tall and 40 stitches wide. This is square-ish enough for an afghan.

The pattern is not super visible with this yarn under these lighting conditions but it is really nice to the hand. Here's a pic:

Bind off is done in pattern of the k, k, slip needle in knitwise, k2tog, k, slip needle in knitwise, k2tog, repeat until done but k the k's and p the p's.

Cast on is long tail. I cast on the second brown square and did four sets of rows (a set of rows is 4).

I also did the first spool of single white for the white part of the project. Here's what that looks like, but do not be impressed by uniformity of the thing because underneath that is about a quarter of a spool of not-great before I got my shit more or less together. Quality and uniformity will improve from here on out. I also got about of a third of another spool done in the white. Not sure how I feel about using the quarter of non-uniform yarn that I generated before I practiced up, but I have time to think about it until I have to decide.

Tomorrow is farm show visit, during which I am taking along some knitting in case I need something to do. Perhaps there will be some progress at the farm show.
