I'm feeling the urge for a spreadsheet or table or something. Went to the doctor again. I'm trying to go at least once a year now that I'm like, getting old and shit. At the doctor, we get bloodwork done because, well, what the hell.

What this means is that I now have a *history* of bloodwork at varying weights and shit. :) Science is fun in my experiment of one, yo, let me share it with you.

My Weight Cholesterol LDL (Calculated) Chol/HDL ratio
176 205 144 3.73
161 189 124 3.38
157 183 117 3.05

It appears from the chart that what you really need to do to fix your cholesterol numbers is drop the damn weight. I'm not taking any cholesterol lowering drugs. I'm not taking any drugs at all. I still eat stuff like bacon and lard and real butter and eggs and whatnot. I'm just thinner. Alert the media...

My cholesterol/hdl ratio has always been "low". The normal range (normal ranges for all this crap are printed out to the right of the paper) says 4.0 to 6.7 whatsis and if I started off at 3.73 whatsis, this number has not been "normal" even once. A quick google suggests that one should strive for a number that is 3 or even 2 but that "normal" is about 4.5. Uhm. So then the paper should say something like "Most people have like 4.5 because our country eats shit but you should really try to get this number down below 4 if you don't want to die of a heart attack. Try some olive oil."

In other things, Creatinine is 1.1 (1.0 is high) and has a note there that says "NOTED" in doctor handwriting.

Alkaline Phosphatase is 34, which is low. It's been low before. It was 34 at fat size and 32 at middle size and is now back up to 34. Not to worry.

eGFR is 58, which is low. No clue what that is.

And also, I have low red blood cells (4.15 down from 4.31 at midweight) and low hematocrit (36.7) which suggests that maybe I should either eat more red meat or take a multivitamin.

Google sez eGFR is inversely related to Creatinine; it's a number compiled to show kidney function. It may be inaccurate for the very muscular (you're not under 18, pregnant, or very obese, so I figured muscular was the only likely option). Healthy kidney function is eGFR of 60 and up.

Yeah, either "very muscular" or "have crappy kidneys"...

Bleah. I have an appointment on Thursday to discuss my poor & getting poorer Creatinine numbers with my kidney doctor.

I hope it's nothing serious, sector_r. The internet suggested (to me, regarding my numbers) that I should work harder to control my high blood pressure (that I don't have) and my diabetes (that I don't have). *sigh* Good luck with your doc!

Thanks.

Whenever I go in for these appointments they always ask me the same history questions about my smoking and drinking; the problem is that I've never smoked, and I drink only infrequently.

They seem so disappointed that there are no obviously unhealthy practices I can give up, I always wonder if I ought to take up vices just so I can later forsake them and reap mega-health benefits. :-/

I don't think it works like that. I did have vices and gave them up and have not noticed any mega-health benefits. *sigh*
