The weather continues cold, not that this is news.

I mean they get all red and rough and cracked on the backs. They're sore. They burn under hot water because they're so raw. I do not like winter because my hands, they get so fucking cold, and the fact that I have not-real-motivated circulation in my extremeties does not help matters. Anyway. Chapped, raw hands. What works on them?

Crisco. It's great stuff. Unlike most "hand lotion" products, crisco doesn't have any drying agents like alcohol. It's just grease. It provides a barrier to water and wind and it doesn't do any damage. Crisco on raw, chapped skin? Lo, it does not hurt. It keeps moisture in and makes things feel better. It lasts a long time. (You only need a wee bit.) It's also dead cheap, hypoallergenic, unscented, cruelty-free, and can also be used to season your cast iron cookware.

Whipped Shea (or pretty much anything with shea butter in it) does wonders for cracked skin. It can be pretty expensive, depending on where you buy it, but a little goes a long long way.

I gave my mom a ~2oz jar of the stuff about 2 1/2 years ago for her cracked heels and she just ran out of it a couple months ago. I'm actually going to buy some for my dad because he's having the chapped hand problem due to having to wash his hands all the time. (He works in a hospital.)

Howdy. Welcome to my deathless prose, part of a complete breakfast and everything. :P

I don't get this quite as bad as my sister (or you, probably on the level of my sister), but I can relate. I hate touching things in the winter. Photo lab especially turns my hands into claws. (For some backwards reason, the photo lab is really dusty.)

Hmm, I'll have to remind myself of the breakfast part. I tend to oversleep that bit these days.

Glysolid (http://www.glysolid.com/) works very well - a tiny amount does a long time.
