I had a passably productive Friday. I went to a closing at 10:00 AM (We didn't buy anything. As is typical, we were the "bank" for the deal. In this particular case, we put up ten grand at 8% and the borrower put up a clear title for 131 acres in East Providence Township.) That wasn't very interesting aside from the 8%. My personal theory for discussing rates with prospective borrowers is that it's very easy to say "Okay, well, how about seven and three quarters?" if they get all bug-eyed when you tell 'em it's eight percent but it's damn near impossible to say "Hrm. You went for seven and three quarters a lot easier than we expected. Are you willing to sign a note for eight instead?" I have explained this theory to my dad, who was loaning a lot of money at 7% without even asking to see if they'd take eight first. Since real rates have been going up, our rates should, too... particularly for borrowers who are more leveraged and/or greater risk. Since people aren't even raising an eyebrow over 8%, I'm thinking maybe we should try for 8.25% on the next round of loanings. (You never know until you try.)

I went to show an apartment to people who didn't show up. I mowed grass. I shuffled personal money around so's to improve my capital management as per yesterday's posting. It's amazing what a good public shaming will do to motivate me.

I discussed the eLoans.com bank thing (mentioned in yesterday's post, not the meme one) with Dad at lunch and discovered that I wasn't really interested because of the number of questions I had about stuff: "So, is your bank totally seperate from your mortgage operation? Cause I'm having doubts about your creditworthiness. How long does it take to get FDIC insured money back in the event of a bank failure, anyway?" If I'm having thoughts like that about your bank, I probably don't want to put my money there. Greed is good, but only up to a point. Greed without caution... not so good.

I built a fire in my house. It's heating season, or near enough, and it's possibly going to frost in the higher elevations tonight. I am one of those higher elevations, so I built a fire.

Finally, Friday Five thing from [livejournal.com profile] cousin_sue:

1) What TV show(s) do you find yourself watching the most?
I do not have antenna television, cable television, satellite television, or other on-demand television service like normal people have. All the television that I watch is in DVD format or downloaded from the internet. That said, I'm currently embarking on The 4400 (Dad loaned it to me on DVD) and I just finished the first season of Six Feet Under. Here directly I will be finishing up Battlestar Galactica, season 2 as soon as I get it from my baby brother.

2) What if any TV shows do you own on DVD?
Desperate Housewives (seasons 1 &2), West Wing (season 3), Deadwood (season 1), Fushigi Yuugi, Gundam Wing, Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, Saiyuki, Weiss Kreuz, Yami no Matsuei, Revolutionary Girl Utena, Fruits Basket (half, chinese bootleg), Prince of Tennis (fansubbed, downloaded), Hikaru no Go (fansubbed, downloaded), Yawara (forty-odd episodes, fansubbed and downloaded).

3) Can you name your favorite TV show theme song (I would encourage you to make a phone post and sing it to us)?
This is going to date me *and* display more geekiness than listing twelve anime did in the previous question. My all-time favorite television show theme is Princes of the Universe from Highlander.

4) Have you ever been on TV and if so for what?
Not that I remember. I've been interviewed at least once for things internetly.

5) What is your favorite YouTube video (feel free to post a link)?
I'm on dialup, here. I don't YouTube much.
