It was raining this morning and I didn't feel motivated to go play horse, so I didn't. That'd be why there is no before-noon horse-related entry for today.

Instead, I remind all readers that there are only 11 days until NaNoWriMo, should you have any desire to participate in that bit of fluff. A friend of mine did it last year and I envied her for the experience, so I've decided to give it a go myself this time around. After all, I'm not getting any younger and novels don't write themselves. I know, up front, that this will all end in (tears) ninjas, but I'm still working on trying new things, so what the hell. If it's ninjas, it's ninjas. It doesn't cost anything to participate in NaNoWriMo, but they're helping to build libraries in Cambodia if you want to donate to that. Cambodia is a vaguely circular country located in southeast asia, south of Laos and nestled between Thailand and Vietnam. Cambodia is more-or-less bisected by the Mekong river. (These geographical notes provided indirectly by John Kerry and the Swift Boat mess.) Since I actually know where Cambodia is, these days, I gave 'em twenty-five bucks for that.

Out of curiousity, I took a look at some browser "market share" stats today. I picked sites that had publicly-visible SiteMeter statistics from my bookmarks and links and such. This was not a particularly random sampling of stuff on the internet, and I admit that. I did want a pretty good diversity in site popularity, from not very (me) to very (Instapundit). I focused on SiteMeter stats because I figured that if there were some reporting error or measurement error in the tracker, it would be the same for everyone that way. Here are my (not entirely scientific) findings...

Site
Visits/Day
% Firefox
My website

250
17%
Pharyngula.org
1,900

9%
Hanzi Smatter
11,000
20.2%
Instapundit

15%

Why did I use only SiteMeter stats for this informal little survey? They're a free stats tracker (so lots of people use them) and they have Firefox as a distinct category apart from "Netscape 7", unlike Extreme-DM.com, a tracker which lumps all things Firefox under the "Netscape" umbrella.

From my rather informal results, we can see that browser share for Firefox exists beyond, y'know, me. If you don't yet have Firefox, maybe you should check it out -- all the cool people already have.
