Fashion. Men's fashion.
Apr. 22nd, 2026 02:00 pmI don't talk about fashion a lot. This is not a fashion blog. I am not generally aware of fashion in any kind of way, so when I DO notice fashion... there's a reason.
And honest to dog, I couldn't get past the photograph. Now, I absolutely love what the press is doing with photographs of the current administration, particularly with the Vanity Fair effort but also just in... everyday news reporting. It's like they try super hard to use the absolute most unflattering pictures they can find. I am on board with this project, totally enjoying the fact that any time the press uses a picture, it's one that should have been in the "delete" pile. It's amazing.
But this photograph was particularly delightful because in the face of news about a senile pedophile coyly hinting Global Thermo-Nuclear War... I could only think about male fashion, specifically Does Pete Hegseth's tailor hate him?

In case you're not up on political figures, the senile pedophile is at the podium on left, some military dude is on the right, and SecDef Hegseth is the badly-dressed man in the middle.
You'd think that a married dude would have a wife to tell him "Babe, that suit is... no. Look, I'll have a word with your tailor. He needs to be making you look like the absolute smokeshow that you are." Does his wife hate him or does he just not listen to her?
You'd think SecDef would have at least one person working under him as an aide or a staffer or a trusted colleague who could take him aside and be, "Hey, that jacket doesn't seem to hang quite right. Color's great but something's off with the drape. Look, I've got a guy who'll fix you right up, make you look sharp. Here's his number, give him a call." They have to know, right? Right? They're not blind...
It's possible to have suits that fit and flatter not-male-model bodies. I mean, if I have to look at suits and men for fashion reasons, I prefer that the suits be on male models, but it's ALSO possible for suits to look good on regularly-shaped men.
Pete Hegseth's suit is doing him no favors.
Look at those armpits! EW. Note the potato shape of his body in that suit, it's just not aesthetic. Pray for that top button, it's putting in a lot of work. See the narrow shoulders? It makes a feminine silhouette. At this point (and I am someone who dresses like shit every single day but also I'm not SecDef), there's enough shit going wrong on that suit jacket that it's got to be intentional on someone's part... and nobody is telling him how much like shit it looks when he dresses like that.
