I painted the porch at 219 today. I also handed out my email address wrong because I'm stupid. I threw another couple of rounds onto the HoHI, which, following its debut on the flickr Socktoberfest group, is being well-reviewed by other sock-oriented people who, now, would like there to be a pattern, maybe.

There's not a pattern. There is a stitch chart, lifted in large parts from (a) Meg Swansen's Knitting (Blue and Cream Stocking in the back of the book) and also from (b) Latvian Mittens, page 77.

There is ribbing. It's corrugated ribbing, which means knit-one-color and purl-the-other-color. I did 2x2 because I thought it looked better than 1x1. I tried other ribbing, the plain sock-kind, first, and I did not like it. I decided that I didn't like it after I had about four inches of HoHI done, which was rather late in the game, but the rest of the world can learn from my mistakes on that. Corrugate ribbing, ya'll.

There's one size. The size was generated to fit me by swatching (several times) and picking a stitch count that would go around my calves in a reasonable fashion. I have mostly blocked the memory but I expect it took me more than one try. The sizing was pretty bootstrap. People who like patterns are not in favor of bootstrap.

There isn't a heel treatment or a foot plan yet, but there will be when I get there. Those aren't going to be any more plan-o-rific than what I'm doing with the rest of the sock, but I'll go over that stuff when I get that far along the sock. People who want a pattern should maybe hang in there until I get there. The impatient can give up on me and do what they want. (That's what I always do, but some people like more certainty in their knitting.(

The HoHI have nine inches. Firm. (Yeah, the jokes are only going to get worse until I can't joke about the length of the socks.)
