In my dreams, which do not feature me standing in sun-god robes on a pyramid with thousands of naked women screaming and throwing little pickles at me, there is a great reckoning wherein we find and mark the property lines of the summer people -- all of them -- and prohibit them from fucking clearing or mowing anything beyond their own property lines. It's just a dream, mind, but it's a very pleasant one and almost as good as the sun god robes one.

All the tulip poplars that I can find in the woods are over ten feet tall. The only smallish trees available are red maple (crappy) and striped maple (also crappy) and black birch (turns pretty yellow but short-lived with weak wood). The previous sentences will have meaning for one faithful reader. The rest of you can just be puzzled.

Progress on the baby hat continues and, with luck, there will be action photos of the baby wearing the hat some time early next week. (It's going well.)

Finally, it turns out that fic writer Jade, whose Bad Porn series so amuses me, has written that which I totally believe is commercial slashy smutfic. I mean, I guess it could be other than that, but I'm hoping not. What I really want is like fanfic of that genre except original work instead of derivative and for sale instead of free. While I've nothing against fanfic, it takes a fair amount of time to locate the proper sort of thing and weed out the Sparkleypoo factor and the people who can't fucking write and the sub-genres that sort of disturb me. I am entirely in favor of commercializing this genre of fic primarily so that there's a body of work that suits and has better editing and money for the people who can make the sock puppets dance in ways that delight and amuse me. In a perfect world, there would eventually be dead-tree editions of the stuff with cover illustrations done by the people who currently do the covers for romance novels. (And you think I'm kidding... the largest consumers of print, story-form porn in the world are middle-aged women. The reason you don't notice this is that they call 'em romance novels.) At any rate, I am planning to go buy/read that this afternoon. There are vampires. There are vampire hunters. They're guys. And they're *dating* (or at least fucking) in a post-apocalyptic world gone mad. Dude, how can anyone not want to read that?

I've never bought an e-book, but that's about to change.

There might be two readers with interest.

Sparkleypoo factor?

I could explain this, but piratemonkey invented the term and does it oh-so-much-more-entertainingly than I ever could.

Just getting around to reading... sorry to hear that. Guess I should have pursued my grievance against the dead-tree company.
