I was also surprised by the way the cities just... blended into each other. We weren't there for long, but the fact that there was no division between Phoenix and Scottsdale was surprising to me.
Denver has little separation between it and the suburbs that surround it, but it's more distinct than *that*, and the other large cities are all definitely very much separate places. So it's not ALL of the west, but was definitely noticeable there.

I love all the cacti! How cool and varied they are at least sort of makes up for the utter lack of leaves. I was so delighted to finally see saguaros, along with faves I'd seen elsewhere like all the cholla and prickly pears.
