Congrats on not being dead of barfing. That sounds like a really shitty ordeal, and I'm glad you're doing okay.

Thank you for the hair tips. I used to have hair down to my butt when I was in high school. These days I take care of it better, but keep it a handspan shorter, and trim a finger's length every few months. It's thick and I get headaches from the weight of it when I keep it up too long, so I trim to lessen the weight and keep split ends under control. There's a sweet spot where it's bouncy and wavy, but not too short to put in the bun style I prefer. If I miss that spot by an inch in a trim, I have to split my hair into two mini buns.

The thing about all hair damage being permanent and cumulative is spot on, and it's how a lot of textile artists talk about cotton and wool. Quilters are fond of using the word "irreversible" when referring to sun damage and so on, and warning people against using old thread.
